Aus einer prägenden Erfahrung heraus begann ich vor vielen Jahren, mithilfe der Fotografie meine Umgebung neu wahrzunehmen. Auf langen Spaziergängen hielt ich Naturmotive fest: Wolken, Blätter im Wind, Pflanzenteile, Fundstücke.
Während dieser Zeit verlor meine Mutter nach und nach ihr Gedächtnis, während bei mir allmählich Erinnerungen zurückkehrten. Diese parallelen Prozesse bewegten mich tief. Aus einer Serie von Fotografien entwickelte ich schließlich ein Memory-Spiel – als Unterstützung für meine Mutter und als Schritt, selbst wieder Halt im Leben zu finden.
Ein Packen Büttenpapier, einige Scheiben geschmolzenes Floatglas, eine Scheibe Goldglas und eine Waage wurden Teil dieses Projekts. Dabei stellte ich mir die Frage, was schwerer wiegt – Glas oder Papier. Natürlich ist Glas physisch schwerer, doch für mich ging es darum, herauszufinden, was für mich, als Glaskünstlerin, genau als Glas Malerin wichtiger war und was jetzt wieder zurück kommt.
Ich suchte im Papier das Glas und im Glas das Papier. So entstand ein Dialog, zunächst innerlich, dann spielerisch nach außen getragen – im eigentlichen Spiel. Was hat Papier mit Holz zutun, und warum ist Asche Teil des Glases. Was wiegen vier oder fünf Scheiben Glas und was vier oder fünf Blatt Bütten. Ist eine Feder leichter als ein Blatt Papier und warum ist das Glas grün, obwohl es durchsichtig ist. All das findet sich in diesen Karten. Hier zeige ich eine Auswahl. A formative experience many years ago led me to use photography as a way to see my surroundings anew. On long walks, I captured moments from nature: clouds, leaves dancing in the wind, plant fragments, and found objects.
During this period, my mother gradually lost her memory, while my own memories slowly returned. These parallel processes moved me deeply. From a series of photographs, I eventually created a memory game – both to support my mother and to find my own footing in life once again.
A stack of handmade paper, several sheets of fused float glass, a sheet of gold glass, and a scale became part of this project. I asked myself: which weighs more – glass or paper? Of course, physically, glass is heavier. But for me, as a glass artist, it was a question of discovering what truly mattered and what was returning to me now.
I searched for glass in the paper and paper in the glass. A dialogue emerged – first inwardly, then playfully expressed outwardly in the game itself. What does paper have to do with wood, and why is ash part of glass? How much do four or five sheets of glass weigh, compared to the same number of sheets of handmade paper? Is a feather lighter than a sheet of paper, and why does the glass appear green even though it is transparent? All of these questions and reflections are embodied in these cards.
